Welcome to World of Fantasy

Hi there. This is Lis and Zan and we'd like to welcome you to our blog - the Fantasy Times. We started out by including a great article about how to write a believable fantasy novel because the truth is that the reason why many fantasy novels fail is they are not "real." Now I realize that sounds like an oxymoron but it is a fact that fantasy worlds must adhere to specific laws. They must be complete worlds in and of themselves. A common mistake that young writers make when writing their first fantasy novels is that they do not understand they are creating a lot more than a storyline. They are creating an entire world that has its own natural and man-made rules and conventions. The power of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series in his complete and utter adherence to the rules of Middle Earth. He, of course, started from the point of view of creating a language. In truth, there is much in that. If you look at the etymology of words in English, you will learn much about the history of first England and later the English colonies including America. The language tells the story.

The point of this blog is to discuss and share our love of fantasy with others. Look for reviews, commentary, lists, rants, raves, and much more as we try to gain a greater understanding of this fascinating genre.
